Rates
The fact is that many clients choose to pay for therapeutic services themselves instead of using health insurance. This choice about using health insurance has some important consequences. In order to bill an insurance company, a diagnosis must be included on the claim. Sometimes, such a diagnosis may affect current or future health insurance coverage. Health insurance coverage varies dramatically from one insurance company to the next. Please be sure to check with your insurance company so you understand your coverage.
Please be sure to let us know if the costs become stressful for you or you have questions about the cost of psychological services. For some of my patients the cost of therapy still seems daunting. The office will accept extended payment schedules for both self-pay and insurance patients. This means you can get the care you need now and spread payments out over a manageable time frame...all without interest. It is important to us that our patients have options so that they can continue to get the professional care they know is necessary.
Initial Diagnostic Evaluations:
$250 Initial diagnostic evaluation (Individual, Couple, Family, Parent-Child)
Medication Consultation and Management
$250 Initial psychiatric evaluation
$80 Brief medication follow-up
$100 Medication management with brief therapy
Individual Adult or Child (Parent-Child) Sessions:
$130+ Individual Adult or Parent-Child Session (45-55 minutes)
$190+ Extended Individual Adult or Parent-Child Session (60-75 minutes)
$260+ Double Individual Adult or Parent-Child Session (90-120 minutes)
Couples or Family Therapy Sessions:
$140+ Couples or Family Therapy (45-55 minutes)
$195+ Extended Couples or Family Therapy (60-75 minutes)
$260+ Double Couples or Family Therapy (90 minutes+)
Home Visitation Sessions:
$250 Initial Home Visit
$200 Follow-up Home Visit
School Observation, Milieu, Consultation or Meeting Attendance:
$280 School observation and meetings (fee per hour, billed in quarter hour increments)
$280 Milieu therapy outside of office (fee per hour or part of an hour)
$200 Consultation services (fee per hour, billed in quarter hour increments): Phone calls greater than 10 minutes; Weekend or after hours emergency calls; Letters upon request; Meeting attendance; Review of past records (Insurance does not typically cover these costs.)
$450 Legal Consultation or Court attendance (fee per hour, billed in hour increments): Dr. Baumgardner will only appear at a court proceeding when subpoenaed. A block of time must be scheduled in order for Dr. Baumgardner to appear in court, which prohibits her from scheduling other clients. If cancelled in less than 24 hours notice the full fee will be charged. The fee applies to travel time and time “on-call”, whether or not testimony is given.
Executive Coaching
$300+ per hour for individual coaching. Rates for Executive Coaching will vary depending upon location and travel.
Group Coaching is available. Please contact Dr. Baumgardner to discuss your organization's needs.
Psychological Assessment:
Assessment rates vary depending on the referral question. Usually, Psychological Assessment takes about 5-6 hours. For every hour spent with the client in assessment, Dr. Baumgardner will spend another 2 or 3 hours scoring and interpreting the tests. Even very simple assessments require 10-15 hours of a psychologist's time. In general, an assessment costs about the equivalent of 10 -15 hours of individual therapy. Please call to discuss your assessment needs with Dr. Baumgardner. She has served as the Director of the Maryland Psychological Assessment and Consultation Clinic and is well equipped to work with adults and with children. She is an expert in assessing most childhood conditions and is an outstanding educational consultant.
Insurance
This office does not accept insurance directly. However, services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:
- Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
- What is my deductible and has it been met?
- How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
- What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
Reduced Fee
Reduced fee or sliding scale services are available on a limited basis. There is no discount for the intake evaluation. You are welcome to apply for sliding scale fees after the first appointment. If you plan to apply, you will need a copy of the tax return for the previous year and you will be asked to complete a short office application.
Payment
Cash, check, debit cards and all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) are accepted for payment. I'm sorry we cannot accept American Express.
Cancellation Policy
Dr. Baumgardner often has clients on a waiting list in case of a cancellation. Therefore, Dr. Baumgardner has a 24 hour cancellation policy and requires that patients notify her 24 hours in advance in order to avoid a cancellation fee. Additionally, Dr. Baumgardner does not overbook. She reserves the time specifically for you. If you do not give 24 hours notice, a $50 fee will apply the first time. If it happens again then the full fee will apply for the session and all future sessions. No shows/No call will be charged at the full fee on the first occurrence. Fees may be waived in the case of acute illness or emergency. In the event of illness or emergency, please give me as much notice as you can. Thank you for being sensitive to the needs of those on the waiting list.
